The 411 on Organic Labels for CBD Products
Overall, organic ingredients are a better alternative for your body and the planet. Organic farms maintain biodiversity, create a safe space for pollinators, and release fewer pesticides into bodies of water.
At CBD Livity, we are very strict about only using organic ingredients in our products. But one question we sometimes receive is why isn’t our CBD labeled as organic? Don’t worry, we have an explanation for this too!
Can CBD Be Certified Organic?
CBD can be certified organic if it’s extracted using ethanol. Another common extraction method is using CO2. At CBD Livity, we extract our CBD using CO2 because the natural approach doesn’t leave any residual solvents behind. But since the gas itself cannot be certified as “organic,” nor can CBD using this extraction method.
Even though the CBD cannot be officially dubbed as organic, we do use organic hemp plants for all of our products. Furthermore, no residual solvents are left behind after the extraction process, meaning you get the cleanest version of American-grown hemp without the byproduct.
What Classifies Ingredients as Organic?
Organic farmers and brands are thoughtful of how the entire process (sourcing, production, and processing) affects the land, environment, and consumers.
Organic ingredients are not allowed to use:
- Synthetic fertilizers
- Genetic engineering
To be “certified organic” such cultivators must preserve healthy soil, avoid prohibited pesticides and fertilizers, and not contaminate organic crops with inorganic substances or crops. This means all the organic essential oils we use are derived directly from plants without the presence of artificial ingredients.
Our organic ingredients and essential oils only come from farmers who consciously use harmless practices on their land and crops. By using these organic substances in our products, we are supporting farms and organizations that intentionally want to make as little impact on the environment as possible.
How Can You Tell If a Product is Organic?
The only way to be sure if something is organic is the use of organic certified labels. These labels are only administered to brands approved by authoritative bodies like the FDA and USDA.
Many products can contain both organic and nonorganic ingredients. Unless 95% of the product is organic, the entire box or label cannot include the green “organic” icon.
Why Should Cosmetics Be Organic?
Since you swallow our CBD oils, you want to be certain the best ingredients are used for consumption. But for CBD salve applied to the skin, is the organic label still important? The simple answer is yes
Whenever you consume, administer, or use a product on your body, the highest quality ingredients ensure a better quality effect. Organic essential oils and substances are free of pesticides. This means less toxins applied to your skin, and a richer aromatherapy experience (no wonder our salve smells so good!).
Not only do organic ingredients smell better, they also moisturize the skin more effectively. Non-organic products from drugstores are more likely to include drying agents like sulfates and carcinogens.
The next time you consider buying cosmetics or lotions, be aware of “The Dirty Dozen” list of chemicals to steer away from when scanning over the ingredients. The list contains BHA, dibutyl phthalate, parabens, parfum, siloxanes, sodium laureth sulfate, and more. All in all, if you struggle pronouncing the name it most likely isn’t good for your skin!
Fortunately for our consumers, every ingredient on our CBD Livity products is straightforward and easy to understand. This is why customers trust and love our oils, salves, and candles. Everything on our CBD marketplace page was thoughtfully crafted without the use of white labels. We promise you get the best quality treatment with our organic ingredients!
